Meet the Founder

Hi, Yo, and Howdy! I'm Susan Komisarjevsky, founder of the best little natural skincare brand this side of Heaven. I'm into soil health, plants, and causing disruptions in the status quo. 

I started Double Bird as a joke. Typical. 

Several years ago, I started making my own skincare out of natural ingredients because I didn't like the idea of synthetic chemicals going on the largest organ of my body. I was also getting older and I was starting to pay attention to my skin more. Wrinkle cream research became a habit. Chemical research became a habit. Trying to find something good that was also cruelty free, sustainable, ethical,  AND AFFORDABLE was an almost impossible errand...and also a habit. 

In my frustration, as the walls of societal pressure to stay young were closing in on me, I threw up my hands and said, "Forget it!" 

I realized that ageing is a privilege. I realized that companies were making me feel inferior so I'd drop a Benjamin on their creams and their serums and their whatevers. I didn't want to accept their terms, and I didn't want other women to have to accept them either. 

So, I started a small fire. 

I made gifts for my family and friends and encouraged them to embrace who they are naturally and to reject messages they were given on a daily basis. I wanted to show them love in one of the ways I knew how, which was to give them something that might bring them joy and healing with zero guilt on their consciences. That began the fire. They loved it and asked for more. 

I realized there were other women like me: women who were discerning about what companies to give their money to, who didn't want to accept the age-old message of inferiority, and who wanted something natural and sustainable in an age of ever-expanding unsustainability. 

For these women, I created Double Bird. You're so incredibly wonderful and we're all so lucky you're here on the planet with us. You're beautiful and you always will be. Don't use this stuff because you feel you have to; use it because you deserve to be good to yourself.
